Formation, not gamification.
Urhema is a Bible study platform built on a simple bet: the thing that keeps someone coming back to scripture is the quality of the encounter with the text — not a streak, a leaderboard, or a badge.
Most Bible study apps optimize for the same thing every app optimizes for: time in app, daily returns, engagement. We think that's the wrong goal for a discipleship product. A verse read carefully once matters more than a chapter skimmed for a streak.
What that means in practice
This isn't a mission statement we hang on a wall and ignore. It shapes real decisions we've already made:
No public rankings, ever. Nobody's reading streak, completion count, or memorization progress is ever shown as a comparison against anyone else's, platform-wide.
Group leaderboards are opt-in, and scoped to your own group only — never a global ranking of every Urhema member.
Badges are a personal collection, not a scoreboard. They're something you've earned, shown to you — not a leaderboard of who has the most.
Some practices deliberately have no metric at all. Lectio Divina and other slow-reading modes track nothing — no timer, no completion percentage, no streak credit. Some things aren't meant to be measured.
Rest doesn't break your streak. If you tell us your weekly Sabbath day, missing it is never treated as a lapse. We built that on purpose, not as an afterthought.
Who this is for
Individuals studying on their own, and — increasingly — small groups and churches. [Add real positioning copy here once church-pilot learnings exist — this section is the thinnest part of this draft and should grow from what a real pilot church actually says about why they chose Urhema, not from us guessing at their reasons in advance.]
