Day 24 · Your First 30 Days
Baptism: Your Public Yes
Awaken
Today's about the most public step so far in this study — one that's meant to be a visible, shared moment, not a private habit like most of the last 23 days.
Behold
Passage: Romans 6:3-4
- What does Paul say baptism symbolizes — burial with whom, and rising to what?
- Is baptism described here as something that saves you, or something that pictures something that already happened?
Paul is explaining, to believers who've already trusted Christ, what their baptism actually means — not instructing them to be baptized in order to become believers in the first place.
Internalize
1. Baptism pictures a death and a new life — it doesn't create either one. "Buried with him... raised... to walk in newness of life" — this connects directly back to Day 2's "new creation" language. Baptism is a physical, visible enactment of something Paul says already happened spiritually the moment you believed. It's obedience and public testimony, not the mechanism of salvation itself.
2. This is your public yes — after 23 days of mostly private steps. Everything up to this point in the study has largely been between you and God. Baptism is different by design: it's meant to happen in front of other believers, as a public declaration of what you privately received back on Day 1.
A note on this one: churches practice baptism differently — different ages, different methods, different timing. This lesson describes the New Testament pattern (believer's baptism by immersion, following faith), but the specific way your own church practices it is something to ask your pastor or leader about directly — that's their call to make with you, not this lesson's.

Today's one small act: If you haven't been baptized since believing, ask your church (or the one you're visiting) how to take that step. If you have, tell someone the story of your own baptism today.

Gospel Appeal: Notice if you've been treating baptism as optional extra credit rather than what it actually is — obedience to something already true, not one more spiritual achievement to unlock eventually. No amount of delaying the public step changes what already happened privately back on Day 1; baptism doesn't add to your salvation, but avoiding it doesn't protect anything either, it just leaves a private yes unspoken out loud. Jesus is your great High Priest right now, and he already knows your private yes — this step is for you and for the people watching, not to convince him of anything he doesn't already know. If you've never taken this step, today can be the day you actually ask your church how. And if you already have, tell someone your story today, the way this lesson suggested.
Add Romans 6:4 to your memorization deck.
Pray: "God, thank you for the new life you've already given me. Help me take this public step of saying yes to it, in front of others. In the wonderful name of Jesus, amen."
Tomorrow: Baptism is one public act of identity. You'll look at another one, meant to be repeated regularly: the Lord's Table.
