Day 21 · Your First 30 Days
Facing Fear with Faith
Awaken
Week 4 is about to ask more of you than any week so far — church, baptism, telling people about your faith. Before any of that, today names the fear that might already be showing up just reading that sentence.
Behold
Passage: 2 Timothy 1:7
- What spirit does Paul say God didn't give?
- What three things does he say God gave instead?
Paul writes this to Timothy, who was facing real pressure and apparent timidity about publicly identifying with the gospel — not a hypothetical fear, a specific one.
Internalize
1. Fear isn't named as coming from God — but it's named honestly, not dismissed. Paul doesn't pretend Timothy isn't afraid. He names the fear directly, then names its source as something other than God, and offers a real alternative — not "just don't be scared."
2. Power, love, and self-control — a specific, not generic, alternative. Not vague courage, but three concrete things: power (strength for what's ahead), love (motivation that isn't self-protective), and self-control (a steady, clear mind instead of panic). If Week 4 already feels intimidating — baptism, church, sharing your story out loud — this verse names exactly what you'll actually need for it.

Today's one small act: Name, specifically, what about Week 4 feels most intimidating — write it down before you get there.
Entrust
Gospel Appeal: Notice if you've assumed the fear you named today about Week 4 is itself a sign something's wrong with your faith, rather than the normal, honestly-named thing Paul addresses here without shaming Timothy for feeling it. No amount of willing yourself not to be afraid actually produces the power, love, and self-control this verse promises; those are given, not manufactured by trying harder to feel brave. Jesus is your great High Priest right now, and he's not waiting for your fear to disappear before Week 4 starts — he's interceding for you in the middle of it, the same way this verse promises strength for exactly this moment, not after it. If fear has felt like proof you're not ready, today can be the day you bring it to him instead of hiding it. And if you already have, closing out Week 3, let this verse be the one you actually lean on as Week 4 begins.
Add 2 Timothy 1:7 to your memorization deck — a good one to have ready heading into this next week specifically.
Pray: "God, I feel some fear about what's ahead this week. Thank you that you haven't given me a spirit of fear, but power, love, and a sound mind — give me that now. In Christ's name, amen."
Tomorrow: Week 4 begins — you'll look honestly at why community isn't optional to this faith, before being asked to go find one.
