Day 8 ยท Your First 30 Days

The Bible Is One Story

๐ŸŒ… AWAKEN

Sixty-six books, written across roughly 1,500 years, by dozens of authors, in three languages. It sounds like it should be a scattered anthology (A collection of literary pieces, such as poems, short stories, or plays). It isn't. Today's about seeing the thread that holds it together.

๐Ÿ“– BEHOLD

Passage: Luke 24:27

  • Where does Jesus start explaining himself, according to this verse?
  • What does "all the Scriptures" suggest about how much of the Old Testament connects to him?

This happens on the road to Emmaus, after the resurrection โ€” two disciples are walking, confused and grieving, and a stranger (Jesus, though they don't recognize him yet) joins them.

๐Ÿ’ก INTERNALIZE

1. Jesus reads the Old Testament as pointing to himself โ€” the whole thing. "Beginning with Moses and all the Prophets" means Genesis through Malachi, not just a few prophecy verses. That's a striking claim from Jesus about his own Bible (what we now call the Old Testament): it's not disconnected background material, it's setup for exactly what just happened to these two disciples.

2. One story, four acts. A simple frame that holds the whole Bible together: Creation (God makes a good world), Fall (humanity breaks it), Redemption (God rescues through Jesus โ€” most of the Bible lives here), Restoration (God makes it all new, ending in Revelation). Every book you'll ever read fits somewhere in those four acts. When a passage feels confusing, asking "which act is this in?" often clarifies more than you'd expect.

๐ŸŒฑ DO

<!-- reflectionQuestions render here -->

Today's one small act: Say the four acts out loud once โ€” Creation, Fall, Redemption, Restoration โ€” until you can repeat them without looking.

๐Ÿ™ ENTRUST

Add 2 Timothy 3:16 to your memorization deck โ€” a companion verse for today, on why all of Scripture is worth trusting as one connected whole.

Pray: "God, help me see the whole story you're telling, not just isolated pieces. Show me where I fit into it."

Tomorrow: You'll meet the main character of that whole story directly, in the Gospel of John.
