Day 30 · Your First 30 Days

Thirty Days In

Awaken

Thirty days ago, you might not have known what "child of God" meant, or how to open a Bible, or where to start with prayer. Today's a look back — and then a clear next step forward.

Behold

Passage: Philippians 1:6

  • What is Paul "sure of," according to this verse?
  • Who does he say began the good work — and who does he say will finish it?

Paul writes this to a church he loves, expressing confidence not in their own strength to keep going, but in God's ongoing commitment to complete what he started in them.

Internalize

Quick recall — before reading on, try to answer these from memory:

  • What did Day 1 say was true about you the moment you believed? (You became a child of God — John 1:12.)
  • What did Day 6 ask you to build? (A daily rhythm, not a rule — Mark 1:35.)
  • What did Day 12 say to do with guilt? (Confess it honestly — 1 John 1:9.)
  • What did Day 20 say faith isn't supposed to become? (An exhausting performance — Jesus' yoke is easy — Matthew 11:28-30.)
  • What did Day 24 say baptism represents? (A public yes to a new life already given — Romans 6:3-4.)

"He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion." Notice the confidence isn't in your own consistency. You may have missed a day or two this month (that's normal, not disqualifying — remember Day 6's rhythm-not-rule instruction). The promise here rests on God's ongoing commitment, not your unbroken track record.

This study ends today, but nothing it started has to end. You now have: a habit of daily reading and prayer, a memorization deck with 30 verses in it, a growing familiarity with your Bible, an honest relationship with doubt and guilt instead of hiding from either, and (hopefully) a church you're connected to or actively pursuing.

Quick check

According to Philippians 1:6, who is responsible for completing the good work in you?

Do

Reflect

Today's one small act: Review all 30 verses in your memorization deck, start to finish, even quickly. Notice how many you recognize now that you didn't a month ago.

Entrust

Tell the person who's walked through this month with you what's actually changed for you — specifically, not vaguely.

Add Philippians 1:6 to your memorization deck — a fitting one to close on.

Pray: "God, thank you for these 30 days. Thank you that you're not finished with me, and that this was never about me finishing on my own strength. Keep going in me. In the wonderful name of Jesus, amen."

Tomorrow: There is no Day 31 in this study — but there is a Day 31 in your actual life. Consider continuing with How to Read the Bible or The Story of the Bible in 10 Days, both free, both natural next steps from here.
