Day 1 ยท Your First 30 Days

You Are Now Family

๐ŸŒ… AWAKEN

You don't have to feel like a Christian yet. Some days you'll feel it deeply; other days you'll feel nothing at all. Neither one changes what's actually true about you as of today โ€” and that truth is where this whole study starts.

๐Ÿ“– BEHOLD

Passage: John 1:12

Read it twice. The second time, notice the two verbs: received and given. One thing was done by you; the other was done to you.

  • Who does the giving in this verse?
  • What's the one condition on your end?

John wrote this near the start of his Gospel, right after explaining that Jesus โ€” "the Word" โ€” came into a world that mostly didn't recognize him. Verse 12 is the exception clause: for everyone who did receive him, something happened immediately, not eventually.

๐Ÿ’ก INTERNALIZE

1. "Right" isn't a feeling โ€” it's a legal status. The word John uses for "right" here is the same word used for legal authority โ€” the right to inherit, the right to vote, the right to a name. Becoming a child of God isn't a mood you work up. It's a status granted the moment you received him, whether or not it felt like anything at the time.

2. Believing his name means trusting who he says he is. "Those who believed in his name" isn't vague spirituality โ€” it's trust placed in a specific person's specific claims about himself. That's the "one condition" from the questions above: not a performance, just trust.

If you prayed to receive Christ recently, or you're not entirely sure when it happened but you know you believe โ€” this verse is written for you either way. The status doesn't depend on how clean the story is.

Quick check

According to John 1:12, what is the one condition for receiving the right to become a child of God?

๐ŸŒฑ DO

You don't need to do anything today to become God's child โ€” that already happened. Today's only job is to let that sink in.

Reflect

Today's one small act: Say out loud, once, alone: "I am a child of God." Notice how it feels to say it whether or not you fully believe it yet.

๐Ÿ™ ENTRUST

Tell one person today โ€” a friend, a family member, a group chat โ€” that you're starting a 30-day study to get grounded in your faith. You don't need to explain everything. Just say it out loud to someone else.

Gospel Appeal: If part of you is waiting to feel more certain before you'll actually believe you're God's child, notice that the verse never made feeling the condition โ€” believing was. Jesus is the one who did the giving here, and he's not waiting for you to feel ready before he holds up his end. He's your great High Priest right now, and that status doesn't wobble with your mood. If you haven't actually received him yet โ€” only read about him โ€” today can be that day. And if you have, let today be the day the feeling finally starts catching up to what's already true.

Add John 1:12 to your memorization deck and say it once out loud before you close this lesson.

Pray, in your own words, or borrow this: "God, I don't fully understand what just changed, but I receive what you've said about me. Help me believe it even before I feel it."

Tomorrow: You'll look at what actually changed on the inside โ€” not just your status, but your nature.
