Day 7 ยท Your First 30 Days

When Doubt Shows Up Early

๐ŸŒ… AWAKEN

One week in, and maybe a question has already crept in โ€” "what if none of this is real," or "what if I'm just going through the motions." If so, you're in good company. Today's passage is one man's honest answer to Jesus, and Jesus didn't rebuke him for it.

๐Ÿ“– BEHOLD

Passage: Mark 9:24

  • What two things does this man say, back to back, in the same breath?
  • Does Jesus wait for the doubt to be resolved before he helps?

This is a father asking Jesus to heal his son, after Jesus' own disciples had already tried and failed. Jesus tells him "all things are possible for one who believes" โ€” and this verse is the father's answer.

๐Ÿ’ก INTERNALIZE

1. Belief and doubt can occupy the same sentence. "I believe; help my unbelief" isn't a contradiction the man resolves before speaking โ€” he says both, honestly, in the same breath, to Jesus' face. Faith in the Bible is rarely portrayed as the total absence of doubt. It's often portrayed as bringing the doubt directly to God instead of hiding it from him.

2. Jesus responds to the request, not to a passed test. Jesus doesn't say "come back once you've sorted out your unbelief." He heals the boy right after this exchange. If you've been treating your own doubts as disqualifying โ€” as if you need to resolve every question before God will take you seriously โ€” this verse says otherwise.

Closing out Week 1: everything from Day 1 (status) through today (honest doubt) is meant to hold together as one thing โ€” you're a child of God, genuinely new, actually welcome to bring your real questions, not just your polished ones.

Today's one small act: Write down one honest doubt or question you're carrying right now โ€” not to solve it today, just to stop hiding it from yourself.

๐Ÿ™ ENTRUST

Tell the person you've been checking in with this week about one real question you're sitting with. Doubt shared out loud tends to shrink; doubt kept secret tends to grow.

Add Mark 9:24 to your memorization deck.

Pray, using this man's exact words if they fit: "I believe; help my unbelief."

Tomorrow: Week 2 starts โ€” you'll zoom out and see how the whole Bible fits together as one story, which will make a lot of what you've read this week click into place.
